Meeting with His Excellency, Sri M. K.Narayanan, Governor of West Bengal at Raj Bhavan, on 9th February, 2011 and ZSI Scientists

                

    Dr. K. Venkatraman, Director, ZSI accompanied with Dr. A.K. Sanyal , Scientist F, Dr. G. Thirumalai, Scientist F, Sri Ratiram Verma, PPO, Dr. Dhriti Banerjee, HOO, Dr. Achintyo Chatterjee, Asstt. Zoologist, Dr. C.H. Satyanarayana, Asstt. Zoologist, Sri Kumar Chattopadhyay, Jr. A.O, Dr. Girish Kumar, Jr. Zool. Asstt., were invited by His Excellency Sri M.K. Narayanan, Governor of West Bengal at Raj Bhavan ,on 9th February, 2011.
    Dr. Venkatraman, DZSI, apprised His Excellency on the Zoological Survey of India as a premiere scientific institute wholly committed to explore the faunal wealth and faunal diversity of our country and on the kind and nature of zoological research carried out by the scientists of ZSI and welcomed His Excellency to visit ZSI to see the 250 year old National Designated Repository. Dr. Dhriti Banerjee, HOO, presented him with a book 'Urban Biodiversity of Kolkata' authored by Dr. Suchitra Ghosh and published by our Publication Division, which was to be officially released by the His Excellency at a later date.
    Mr. Rati Ram, PPO, gifted several volumes of The Fauna of West Bengal, Pictorial Handbooks and the Antarctica Compendium for the Raj Bhawan Library. Dr. Sanyal, Scientist F, briefed His Excellency about the varied diversity studies like the State Faunal Diversity, Ecosystem diversity, diversity of Protected Areas etc., conducted by ZSI Scientists and also elaborated on the participation of ZSI Scientists in the Antarctica Expeditions. As an extrapolation of the studies conducted by the SRC Chennai at the Governor House of Chennai, DZSI outlined a faunal diversity study of the Raj Bhawan, Kolkata, requesting permission to conduct surveys for three seasons, three days each on all the available faunal groups at the Raj Bhawan. His Excellency was pleased to acquiesce and the permission was to be formalized later. The meeting concluded with sundry discussions over a cup of tea and with the delegates thanking His Excellency for his invitation to the Raj Bhawan.
