About us

Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre was established during fifth five year plan on 21st April, 1977 to study the Faunal Diversity including Marine life of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. These islands support a unique ecosystem of tropical plants and animals. Some of which are extraordinary and found exclusively on these islands and no where else on the earth.

Area under Jurisdiction

The station covers the entire surface area of three districts containing 9 National Parks, 96 wildlife sanctuaries and one biosphere reserve. The islands have total land area of 8293 sq. km. and a coastline of 1962 km.

Museum

The museum of the station displays more than 1200 specimens of various groups of marine and terrestrial animals.

Library

The library of the station holds 1421 Books dealing with various aspects of zoology mostly pertaining to Island Ecosystem and marine biology and 59 scientific journals are also subscribed.
