About us

Central Zone Regional Centre of Zoological Survey of India was established at Jabalpur in February 1960 under Second Five Year Plan, to survey, ascertain and augment our knowledge of the faunal resources of Central India.

Area under Jurisdiction

Central Zone Regional Centre covers two states of Central India namely Madhya Pradesh, the Tiger State (covering 48 Districts having nine National Parks, 25 Wildlife Sanctuaries, Five Tiger Reserves and one Biosphere Reserve) and Chhattisgarh (covering 18 Districts with three National Parks, thirteen Wildlife Sanctuaries and one Tiger Reserve and One Biosphere Reserve shared with M.P.).

Embodying the results of scientific projects over 270 scientific papers, articles were published from this Station in national and international periodicals enriching the knowledge of fauna of Central India.

Museum

This station maintains a regional museum exhibiting representative fauna of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The entry to the Museum is free and the visit provides an opportunity to view various enchanting animals of this region. The Museum has following exhibits:

Library

The library houses a variety of books on general zoology, entomology, fishes, ecology, environment and conservation numbering 1764 books and more than 60 national and International scientific periodicals. The library is visited by scientific researchers, students and general public for collection of information on local fauna.
