Area under Jurisdiction
North Eastern Regional Centre covers six North Eastern States of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.

Major Projects
A total of 109 research projects on various groups of animals covering taxonomy, biology, ecology, distribution, status, etc. were taken up by the Scientists of the Centre.
Significant Achievements
Faunal diversity of Nagaland (Lower vertebrates), Nokrek Biosphere Reserve, Baghmara Reserve Forest, Saipung Wildlife Sanctuary/Narpuh Reserve Forest of Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya.
Altogether 70 species has been discovered by the scientists of the Centre of which 32 are vertebrates (Pisces - 10; Amphibia - 22) and 38 are invertebrates (Platyhelminthes – 8; Arachnida – 14; Crustacea - 1 and Insecta – 15).
Pictorial handbook on Amphibia of North East India covering 119 species known from North East India was published for the first time.
Staff from NERC, ZSI, Shillong participated in expeditions to Tawang, Namdapha and Subansiri districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
EIA studies were done by the Centre on Dhaleswari H.E. Project, Mizoram, Kopili H. E. project in N.C. Hills, Assam, Myntdu-Leishka H.E.Project, Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, Kulsi Multipurpose H.E. Project, Kamrup, Assam, Jadukata Multipurpose H. E. Project, West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, and Lower Subansiri H. E. Project, Dhemaji, Assam.
The Scientists have also contributed chapters pertaining to different groups of animals in the State Fauna volumes of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.
Publications
About 260 research publications in various national and international scientific journals have been published.
Museum
The Centre maintains a Museum exhibiting the representative fauna of North East India.




Library
The library has a total number of 2751 books pertaining to different groups of animals and 11 National and 2 International journals are subscribed.
