Southern Regional Centre (SRC) was established during the II Five Year Plan on 9th March 1961 to conduct faunal explorations within its jurisdiction.

Area under Jurisdiction

Tamil Nadu (30 districts with 5 National Parks, eight Wildlife Sanctuaries, One Tiger Reserve ), Karnataka (Eight districts of southern part with three National Parks and Six Wildlife Sanctuaries ), Southern part of Andhra Pradesh, Union Territory of Puduchery (Pondichery). Two Biosphere Reserves fall within the jurisdiction of the station.
