A commodious and well equipped library, housed in a spacious Annex building in ZSI, New Alipore, Kolkata. The library houses the outstanding collection of literature in taxonomy, ecology, biology, wildlife, marine biology, zoogeography and paleozoology and thus acclaimed the name as one of the richest library of zoological literature in South East Asia. It holds a catalogued collection of more than 90,000 volumes as well as extensive reports rare book collection with numerous accounts and journals of famous voyages of discovery. Currently, nearly 800 zoological journals from all over the world through purchase and exchange are received every year.

The Regional Stations of the survey also have their own libraries and subscribe various journals to cater their research needs.

The library facilities are made available to students, researchers, teachers and the general public free of cost. The reprographic services are made available to all zoologist and naturalist both within the country and elsewhere. .
