INDIAN
MUSEUM ZOOLOGICAL GALLERIES
The
maintenance and development of the Zoological Public
galleries of the Indian Museum in Kolkata, is one of the
important functions of the Survey. These galleries are for
the public, through the display of attractive exhibition-
series, which includes well planned and accurately labeled
specimens to stimulate and broaden the minds of general
public not engaged in scholarly research. The Taxidermy and
Museum Division of the Survey undertakes this work.
To
illustrate the Zoology of the Indian sub-continent, the
fauna has been assembled in several artistically designed
Zoological Galleries, two for Mammals, one for Insects, and
two for birds, reptiles, fishes and an exclusive gallery
with show-cases depicting various ecosystems and their
representative animal life.
It is always
the endeavor of the survey to arrange the public galleries
as affectively as those of great Museums of developed
countries.
